What's for Lunch? Japanese Bento Box!

I was talking to Naomi the other day, about preparing our lunch box when school starts. Naomi is one other housemate that I am living with next year. So I immediately thought about making Japanese Bento Box!

Do me a favor, and go search online for images of "Japanese Bento Box". You will be surprised with these talented Japanese housewives. I do not know how early they wake up in the morning and start preparing lunch for their children. Look at the images, they are truly masterpieces! (Just to clarify, I did not make these bento boxes!)

 

If you look closer to these images, you can see that sushi rice, kamaboko (fish purée, this stuff is amazing!), and of course knife skills are what make the design possible. However, this is way too cute for me to actually eat it. I could probably make bento for someone, but definitely not for myself. That is why I am so impressed with the moms in Japan,spending hours in the morning just so their children can be proud when they show others their lunch boxes. On the other hand, if you watch a lot of Japanese animations or TV shows, you will also be familiar with the bento tradition. Typically in high school, girls will prepare a special bento for the guys they have crushes on.
